Gatherings

Driven by deep understandings of the human need for belonging and togetherness, Dr Kabba has masterfully harnessed the power of learning and place-making to curate catalyzing spaces for people to come together, engage, and create transformative experiences.

Over the last three years, Dr Kabba has focused on designing and facilitating spaces for women from different walks of life.

Gathering on God’s Names (GOGN)

The Gathering on God’s Names (GOGN) is a virtual space for Muslim women that is dedicated to exploring the meanings and applications of the 99 names of Allah (asmāʾ Allāh al-ḥusnā). These gatherings are co-designed, developed, and held with an intention to destabilise authority centric models of learning in Muslim spaces. This approach seeks to create a space for the expression and sharing of knowledge from learned and lived experiences, enabling our voices to be equally heard.

GOGN arose from conversations around the challenges experienced in Muslim learning spaces, a desire to return to basics, and a longing to be in community with people who are searching for depth in understanding and practical ways to embody our learning.

Black Muslim Women Healing Collective - Literary Salon

An intimate gathering that uses the written word to bear witness to the life experiences of Black Muslim women. Our gatherings aim to showcase and unearth stories that animate how we are seen and see ourselves in our families, our communities, and society to help us better know ourselves and identify ways to nourish one another. Our conversations give voice to our psychological, emotional, intellectual and spiritual wellbeing to help us better know ourselves and enable us to be better stewards of ourselves and our communities.

Summer of Words

Inspired by On Being’s podcast, Poetry Unbound, Summer of Words is a bi-monthly gathering of women in Oxford reading and reflecting over poems written by women.
